Kitchener Fire Camp FFIT: An Opportunity for Young Women to Explore Firefighting Careers

Are you a young woman between 15 and 19 years old eager to embark on an exciting and rewarding career in firefighting? The City of Kitchener is offering an incredible chance to join Kitchener Fire Camp FFIT (Female Firefighters in Training) — an empowering program designed to introduce young women to the dynamic world of fire service.

What Is Kitchener Fire Camp FFIT All About?
Held annually in partnership with the Kitchener Fire Department, Conestoga College Pre-Service Fire Program, and Fire Service Women of Ontario, this immersive four-day camp provides participants with hands-on training and valuable experience in emergency preparedness. This year’s camp will take place from June 24 to June 27, 2025, at the Waterloo Region Emergency Services Training and Research Centre, running daily from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

What Will You Learn and Experience?
Camp FFIT offers an exciting, hands-on introduction to firefighting through various training exercises, all guided by experienced firefighters. Activities include:

  • Rescue missions and search techniques
  • Fire communications and emergency response coordination
  • Auto extrication procedures
  • Forcible entry skills
  • High-angle rescue training
  • Hose deployment techniques
  • Proper use of firefighter gear and safety protocols

This camp is designed to challenge participants both mentally and physically, helping them build confidence, leadership skills, and a deeper understanding of the firefighting profession.

How to Apply for Kitchener Fire Camp FFIT
Applications open on March 18 at 9 p.m. and close on April 18 at 11 a.m. To be eligible, applicants must be in good physical condition, have a positive attitude, and adhere to all safety guidelines.
